Senior Race at NBYC
Adult and senior youth dinghy racing, Sunday afternoons on the Waitematā.
NBYC offers competitive, yet accessible, Sunday afternoon dinghy racing for adult sailors and experienced senior youth. Racing is conducted on the sheltered waters off Birkenhead Point with a focus on good sportsmanship, seamanship, and enjoyable fleet racing.
If you can sail a dinghy in a breeze and want a race, this is for you. We cater for mixed class racing. So bring along your own yacht if you like, or jump in one of ours.
What you sail
Boats used: Open fleet racing accommodating various adult dinghy classes, single-handed, and double-handed boats. We often have Quests, Fevas, Aeros, Lasers and Sunbursts racing together.
Club boats: Limited club boats may be available for members by prior arrangement.
Crewing opportunities: Sailors without a boat can often connect with owners looking for crew on double-handed dinghies. This is perfect if you are not yet confident enough to skipper on your own.
Practical details
Membership: Club membership is required for regular Senior Race participants. Although we also cater for those who just want to do a bit of casual racing. We welcome new and visiting sailors.
What to bring: Proper personal sailing gear (wetsuit/thermals, splash jacket, sailing gloves), appropriate footwear, and your own lifejacket/buoyancy aid.
