About NBYC

Northcote & Birkenhead Yacht Club is a community dinghy sailing club on Birkenhead Wharf, on Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour. We teach both young people and adults to sail, coach Optimist and Feva fleets, host regattas and race on Sunday afternoons. Our clubrooms are also available for hire.

Our history

Sailing here goes back to the Northcote Birkenhead Regatta, first held in 1910 and once one of Auckland’s premier regattas. The club itself was formed in the 1940s and later merged with the Birkenhead Boating Club.

As the Harbour Bridge and moorings spread, the club moved from the “Gold Hole” near the bridge approaches to Needles Eye, then to Hinemoa Park, and finally to its home on Birkenhead Wharf.
