Fleet Coaching

Coached racing for Optimist Blue/Green and RS Feva. One enrolment covers the whole summer season.

After Learn to Sail, juniors and youth move into coached fleets. Coaching runs through the summer season, from November to April.

Optimist Blue/Green

Designed for junior sailors who have completed Learn to Sail Level 2 and want to transition into casual fleet racing and regattas. Sailors build confidence on the water while mastering boat handling and race procedures. Sessions run on Sunday mornings, and sometimes also on Wednesday afternoons, with full safety cover and qualified instruction. Coaching focuses on fun, boat control, and foundational racing skills. Note that sailors must have their own fibreglass optimists to participate in this fleet.

RS Feva

Targeted at youth sailors looking for fast-paced, double-handed team sailing experience. Sailors learn asymmetric spinnaker handling, team work and seamanship. Coaching takes place during Sunday sessions throughout the summer season. Focuses on team communication, tactical racing, and inter-club regatta preparation. The club has five Feva yachts, which are available for use with a boat usage fee. Or bring your own boat.

What both fleets need

  • Club membership is required.

  • Sailing kit: a lifejacket, worn on the water at all times, plus a wetsuit, windproof top, hat, sunscreen, sailing gloves and closed-in shoes.
